Energy company sows seeds of redemption
Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 01:25PM Rough fescue is a long-living perennial bunchgrass revered by Alberta ranchers and naturalists --even if most city-dwellers would be hard-pressed to distinguish it from any other prairie plant.
It is so strong it sticks through snow drifts, allowing horses, cattle and wildlife to feed on its shoots all winter.
The hardiness of mature rough fescue is matched only by the notorious difficulty of regrowing new grass after it has been overgrazed, or torn up by oil and gas development.
