Iran Discovers New Oil and Gas Layer Northwest of Ahvaz

A new oil layer in the center of Iran promises to increase oil field reserves to 4.5 billion barrels. In addition a new gas field was located with an approximate reserve of 6 trillion cubic feet in the provice of Fars.
The oil layer discvoery adds to the Band-e-Karkheh oil field northwest of Ahvaz in the province of Khuzestan.
The report follows the discovery of eight new oil fields reported in April 09, adding to Iran's reserves. Iran is already OPEC's second largest oil producer and commands the second largest gas reserves in the world.
