Atlantis Systems wins maintenance training contract for CF-18 Hornet fighter jets

Atlantis Systems Corp's division Atlantis Systems Eduplus (ASE) in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, has been awarded a contract to build a maintenance training support system for the CF-18 Hornet fighter jet.

ASE will develop a multi-purpose training aid and performance support tool providing features including: Borescope Tool, Vane Tutorial, Engine Model, Borescoping Tutorial, Damage Library and Self Assessment for the CF-188 F404-GE-400 Engine. The end product will describe and demonstrate borescoping procedures to give the technician a spatial understanding of the internal spaces of the engine. Borescopes are used for inspection work where the area to be inspected is inaccessible by other means. Borescope inspection of engines can be used to prevent unnecessary maintenance, which can become extremely costly for fighter turbine engines.

The product will be delivered on the Air Force Integrated Information and Learning Environment (AFIILE) and be installed on the Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) used on the hangar floor. The product will be installed and deployed to 10 Field Technical Training Squadron (10 FTTS) in Cold Lake, Alberta.

"This ASE led initiative will provide Air Force Technicians with an on-the-job tool to aid them through an engine borescoping inspection process," said Al McMillan, ASE Business Development Manager. "As an example, when a CF-18 encounters a FOD (Foreign Objects and Debris) situation, this ASE product will guide a technician through the maintenance process to inspect the engine for internal damage."

"While our Atlantis Systems International (ASI) division has a proven history providing integrated maintenance training to the CF-18, this contract represents the first work ASE will perform for the CF-18 Fleet," said Carl Daniels, Vice President and General Manager of ASE. "We are excited by this project, because it also represents the seventh new aircraft fleet ASE has added to its portfolio in the past eleven months."
