Two new wells approved for West White Rose fields

St. John's Newfoundland - New wells have potential to increase access to expected 120 million barrels of oil at West White Rose
Husky Energy (TSX:HSE) has received the green light to drill a pair of wells in another White Rose expansion oil field off Newfoundland.
The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board approved the company's application Monday to drill two wells.
Oil will be produced using existing infrastructure at Husky's production ship on the Grand Banks.
Known as the West White Rose pilot scheme, the plan calls for drilling a pair of wells — one oil producer and one injector — to further quantify oil reserves in the expansion field.
The petroleum board approved the plan, but with a number of conditions, including that Husky report regularly on West White Rose production results.
If the two pilot wells adversely affect the overall “potential petroleum recovery” at West White Rose, the board said it will reassess the merits of the pilot scheme.
With estimated reserves of 120 million barrels of oil, the western satellite is believed to the largest and most complex of the three White Rose expansion fields.
The first expansion field, North Amethyst, started producing oil on May 31.
