Electricity will play an increasingly important role in transportation
Hydro Quebec is launching the first open request for proposals from suppliers to provide 120 public charging stations for plug-in electric vehicles. Hydro Quebec is acting on behalf of "The Electric Circuit," a group comprising partners RONA, Les Rôtisseries St-Hubert, METRO an the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT).
The charging stations will be operational in early 2012 at the partners' business sites and at several park-and-ride facilities. Suppliers have until August 30, 2011 to submit a proposal. Charging stations must be certified in Canada and will be tested in a climate-control chamber at Hydro Quebec.
The Electric Circuit is Canada's first public charging network for plug-in vehicles and marks the first stage in the development of the charging infrastructure needed to support the operation of electric vehicles in the province.
The request for proposals can be viewed at http://www.hydroquebec.com/soumissionnez/data/lst1.htm.
Bids will be evaluated on such criteria and requirements as price and quality of the proposed technology as well as the Québec content. The successful bidder will be announced before the end of 2011.
