2012 Honda CR-V: for the first time it will be built in Canada.
Honda of Canada, whose popular Civic dominates the Canadian market and is consistently voted Canada’s most popular car, will begin building its other top seller, the CR-V, at its Alliston, Ontario facility this year. For the first time, Honda will be manufacturing its two top-selling Canadian vehicles in Canada. With the inclusion of the CR-V, as many as 70 per cent of Honda vehicles sold in this country will also be made here.
The Honda Alliston plant will have another distinction: it will be the only plant in North America to produce four distinct models on one line.
Honda sold just over 55,000 Civics in Canada in 2011, beating its nearest rival by a comfortable 10,000 vehicles. The CR-V was also a high seller, with over 25,000 units sold in Canada. This made it the top selling SUV in Canada.
The 2012 CR-V was showcased at the Montreal Auto Show last week where Jerry Chenkin, executive vice-president of Honda Canada said that it has “always set the bar in the compact SUV class” and continues to do so with improved fuel economy and “more technology than ever before.”
Honda has issued a media advisory that an official "line-off" ceremony will take place to at the Alliston plant on January 27.
